Plenty of outpourings of respect from place you might not expect. If you're my age, you couldn't help but feel some sadness. She owned a huge part of the 70s. I might be just a little too young to have felt the pull. I had an aversion to musicals right from birth so when Grease came out in '78, and was just everywhere, I couldn't understand what everyone liked. No context for the nostalgia of it, and probably too young for the "romance". And while I understood why everyone had that Farrah poster - as an example - Olivia did nothing for me. To be honest, even now, looking at stills of her in Grease...meh. And her music was never my thing, so that didn't pull me in either. I associated her with disco and the Bee Gees because Travolta-->Saturday Night Fever-->Bee Gees, and I was a big nope to disco as a kid. Now that I have my own nostalgia to contend with, it's sad to see her go. I've still never watched Grease from beginning to end.

And now Queen Elizabeth is gone.
I feel she was the last public figure of any sort in the world that had dignity.
I feel like dignity has died. Only jackasses remain.

Me neither, but she's definitely a big part of the soundtrack of the 70s. Of course, Xanadu killed ELO, so . . .

The Queens family is filthy rich while sitting in a million dollar thrown pretending to care about what went on outside all of her castles! And I know of two princesses that would like a word in regards to "dignity". Eff the Windsors!!!

When Lansbury played Laurence Harvey's Mother in the classic Manchurian Candidate (more relevant now than ever), she was only 2 years older than Harvey. What a great role.
Pretty amazing actress with and incredible career.
I remember her of course from Murder she Wrote and Bedknobs and Broomsticks (I distinctly remember this on a double bill at the drive-in with Swiss Family Robinson when I was a kid), but she was also in a number of real classic films such as Gaslight, The Mirror Crack'd, The Harvey Girls, Death on the Nile, National Velvet, The Court Jester (with the great Danny Kaye), Blue Hawaii, as well as Beauty and the Beast (did anyone know that Lumiere the Candle was played by Jerry Orbach, Lenny Briscoe from Law and Order? dude was a triple threat, could Act, Sing and Dance). Musta watched that movie 100 times when my kids were young.
Oh well, just one more tiny piece of our childhoods gone.

Charles illustrates what I'm talking about - you didn't see Lizzie throw a tantrum over a pen.

Watched MSW with my mom as a kid. That one stings, feels like a piece of childhood died. There was talk of trying to get her in to Game of Thrones to be a rival of the old Tyrell lady, but they couldn’t make it happen. Man that would have been epic.

I always loved the comedy bit about MSW. So this mystery writer goes around to much of sleepy New England towns, and every town she goes to, someone gets murdered? How dangerous are small towns in New England? Can't be that bad because the local sheriff never has a clue how to solve the case. Personally, I can't believe no one ever suspected her. Oh look, Jessica's in town and someone's dead....

I always thought, she lives in a small town in Maine and people keep dying everywhere Jessica goes, stay away from her, but oh no, someone always did and bingo!!! Mum watches nightly at 7 until 8. I join her sometimes seeing a lot of familiar faces from years ago: Brian Keith, Bradford Dillman, Tom Bosley, Claude Akins and Adrienne Barbeau, baby. And, yeah, 50, Cabot Cove had a lot of stiffs for a small town. Probably why some episodes were presented as such faraway destinations like London, New York and Cali.

To me, she will always be the mother in the Manchurian Candidate. And Sibyl Vane in 1946's The Picture of Dorian Gray where she sang Little Yellow Bird. Even sang the same song on an episode of Murder, She Wrote decades later. Seems like she regularly played mothers or older women. She was Warren Beatty's in All Fall Down from '62, and Harlow in 1965. Wasn't she just a few years older than Lawrence Harvey in Manchurian Candidate?
