No. Old fashioned excel spreadsheets work for me. Chock this thread up to a BadHab idea that flopped...

Was there some chatter about guys wanting to do the rookie sprints? I can't find it.

Was there some chatter about guys wanting to do the rookie sprints? I can't find it. Yep, Bookboy & Nas are doing it. They haven't reported the results yet.

I will happily participate in the dashes, but I need a little while to get ready.
HB will be on stopwatch for the results.
Check back in December.

I *might* be ready by December, December 2016 that is. This morning I weighed in at 249 lbs. and I'm 5'8". Yikes.
No matter where everyone is at, fit or unfit like myself, report your progress. And be supportive of each other, I'm very impressed that people want to pass the sprint test.
Let this thread be about the individuals and success as a whole.

Not a bad idea. I need to lose 15 lbs. I'm up for using this as a losers's loser club of sorts.

All it takes is one step in the right direction to get going . I am in my 40's and I didn't think I could lose weight as easily as when I was younger but I have lost twenty one pounds in the last six weeks and feel great . Get started and good luck !

Well, I was heavier, I've dropped about 15 lbs. I had dropped 28, but I got off the wagon. Here's what has worked for me. I just have to gain consistency doing it.
No sugar at all - check salad dressings, ketchup has sugar in it, check all ingredients. No carbs - so no grains, so no bread, no potatoes, rice, corn.
DON'T avoid fats, in fact, seek them out. See if you can find whole milk yogurt and enjoy your steaks, have olive oil with your salads.
Here's what is going on, simple carbs (sugar) and carbs are more easily digestible than protein. IT IS all about calorie reduction, and the fats are much more satiating than the low fat food, and once you've limited your food choices enough you get tired of eating them and will eat less.
Then of course, working out on top of that.
Having said that, there is no one size fits all for diets. The only thing that really works is the "n+1 experiment" - what works for you. Get a scale that measures weight, hydration and fat percentage. Keep track of what you eat everyday along with your weight, fat% and h20% - every day. The fat% and hydration% are important because you can easily gain or lose several pounds of water weight easily. The food diary will prove out what works for you. And its only the diet that works for you that matters.

Jeebus, don't let nite see that or he won't be as good a sport about my constantly inflating his weight and underestimating his height. I think I could do the sprints by mid October depending on this rigorous course of massage I'm prepared to invest in. I could use to drop about 25 but I'm ~6' and a mesomorph body type, so it spreads around well. But over the years I have made trainers and massage therapists cry - or go "whoa!" when they try to work on me. Like that guy who keeps trying Walter's meth in the first couple of seasons of Breaking Bad, I am "tighttighttighttight". So I'd do the first 300, tear both hammys, and fail the next two trying to run on my hands.

Dieting is really simple at it's core. Don't eat shit. Don't eat shitloads of nutritious food. Drink 3L of water a day.
If you do that, you get healthier, which usually means you lose weight. My 25 lbs is all burgers, pizza, beer and burritos. When I cut those out of my diet, weight melts off. But ...
Ay wan' to Leeeeev!

As overweight as I am i still play hockey and do pretty much everything normally. But I got the pre-diabetes coming in and if I stay on my "diet" the only symptoms of have of it go away, the fatigue and not feeling good. I think I hit the tipping point of junk food.

Count yourself lucky re: "do pretty much everything normally". Loss of flexibility is a far bigger issue for me than weight, though they are likely related to some degree.

I run a lot, and it's masked a lot of bad habits and poor diet decisions. Next week I'm trying to register for the Boston Marathon next April and I've run two marathons this year. I narrowly qualified for Boston so I'm not sure if I'll get in or not yet, as you can qualify and still get squeezed out.
...but, as I type I'm still a shade over 190 lb. and there's a fair amount of junk there. Stomach and love handles. I drink a lot of beer and I have a Chipotle problem, which they have exploited by locating a restaurant across the street from my office and another one 6 blocks from my house. Entrapment.
Best workout I do now = rowing. I have one of those Concept2 machines in my basement. Awesome calorie burner and muscle builder for people who don't have much time. Row for 30 minutes and you'll fall off that thing in a sweaty heap.

On the food thing, I always go on the everything in moderation rule. I want to make it clear though, I didn't always follow this rule. When I was younger it was beer, pizza, burgers, beer, beer, pizza, burgers, eggs and bacon. No fruit, no fibre, no nothing. As you get older and heavier ,you realize that the weight is harder to come off than when you were a young buck. I was always active in High school sports and hockey & baseball as well. Work, family commitments and fun always seemed to get in the way of workouts, but now I find the time and as I say, everything in moderation. I still enjoy a pizza and a burger on the barby, but I eat lots of fruit and veggies as well, and I feel great, I'm 6' 3",217 lbs, but was 240 lbs in my heyday, I was like Book though, could carry my weight well, but just felt yucky. To those that are trying to get in shape, I say, keep it up, every little bit helps, don't get discouraged, a lot of times its mind over matter, keep at it!

Simple, eat a big breakfast like left overs from dinner. Then work out as much as possible especially cardio. Stay away from bread, sugar, and salt. Eat protein but navigate to fish if possible. Enjoy sex three or four times a week, different women is not for this old guy. Keep beer* consumption to 48oz a day. Lastly don't go to the doctors, the insurance business has made their diagnosis dangerous. Persoanally, I have to be Zen to deal with Bookboy's long thoughts..... oh by the way I like Zen sayings cause if I didn't I would get pissed off all the time....knitting circle!!!! *moderation of alcohol except for Auchentoshan whiskey.

"You need about a six month program just to loosen you up enough that yoga would help you more than it would hurt...." - Physiotherapist's comment to me last week. When I say my muscles are tight, I mean like the way Glen Wesley gripped the stick in OT of the Cup Finals.
