We just finished John Adams, an amazing tale.
Now we're onto The Wire. This is going to be, I believe, the sixth time I've watched this all the way through. She hasn't see it yet. It'll be great because now she will understand all of my The Wire references. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeee-it.
And we're also re-watching House of the Dragon. It started a bit slow, but they had to build the past society and introduce a whole new set of characters. I can't wait for S2!
And lastly, if I haven't said it before, if anyone is having a hard time, whether it's for the day, week, or life, please find Resident Alien. It's hysterical.

Probably the best performance of a character going completely insane. What's also great, is this version of, "Joker" has nothing to do with the over budget garbage Batman movies. Why so serious? You could actually make a caee that some of the scenes were pure comedy. A good dark movie is OK once in awhile. Been watching Marie Antoinette on PBS. Still a sucker for masquerade ball, flared out Tudor dresses and sex behind hidden palace rooms. I blame it on 70s Barry Lyndon, Three Musketeers and the Duelist movies.

Whenever we get long weekends at home, we try to watch a trilogy. This Memorial Day was Mad Max Weekend.
Those movies are garbage!
The original didn't hit the actual conflict until there was like 17 minutes left.
The Road Warrior had an okay plot, but so much of it didn't make any sense.
Beyond Thunderdome was bereft of reason and common sense, and left us with asking why a hundred times.
Last night we added in Fury Road. That wasn't even a Mad Max movie.
What the hell. I was so pumped up for this. in return, I got a hole in my life for about 10 hours that will never be justified.
(We should have just watched S1 of Justified. Raylan Givens never lets you down.)

The 2nd Road Warrior was awesome. Only one that was great. The 1st one was a independent film shot for almost nothing. So yah it had its flaws. Interesting about the 1st one. Goose was supposed to play the lead. Gibson just tagged along for His best friends audition and got the part.
The 3rd one even Mel Gibson hated. Tina Turner talked about how miserable Gibson was about the script. Thunderdome started off ok but adding the kids was like the last half of Return of the Jedi. The studio wanted to try to attract family's. So dumb!
The 4th one I've never watched it cause I've heard it sucks.

The 4th one is not Mad Max. He's a supporting character. And don't give me ugly or average Charlize. She's a smoke show to stop the Earth. Stop making me watch her with a shaved head and loose fitting clothing!

Resident Alien is absolute hilarity turned in by the great Alan Tudyk...the pirate from Dodgeball and a great role in the Sandra Bullock movie 28 days...fantastic comedic actor but his Resident Alien role is pretty much one of the best comedic acting roles in TV history. He is fucking brilliant and sarcastically, selfishly just funny.

Bosch was fantastic...And it had a Wire reunion too...the late Lance Reddick was terrific in the Wire, but he was never better than as Chief Irving in Bosch...Spoiler Alert--watch the episode when he is battling with the Mayor of Los Angeles and there is a scene where he doesn't say a word in his limo...it's fucking incredible how good he is. He just commands the TV in that series.

I didn't understand the need for the other team of detectives. I didn't care about the bad guy or his wife. They tired to do too much and I just lost interest. Jerry Edgar was awesome in that show and as Marlo Stanton in The Wire though.

John Adams...Ben Franklin steals the show...Tom Wilkinson is savagely outstanding...love the posturing when the Philadelphians and Bostonians first meet...but never better the great line..."Well we shall hang together, or surely hang separately."...love that line. Wilkinson (passed away) wow just love this guy...he was terrific in Full Monty and in In the Bedroom, jesus was he incredible as the Dad looking for revenge.

Better Call Saul...there is one episode that absolutely stands out..it's when he is interviewing for a silly copier company job...I thought Alec Baldwin's rant in Glen Gary Glen Ross was best ever..short and sweet..but SPOILER ALERT--Odenkirk's rant to the two bosses about how stupid they were to hire him blindly has to go down as the most caustic, fantastic acting rants I think I've ever seen

I meant the two that were investigating that dude's expiry where Bosch had all the cameras. It was just too much. You can't develop that many characters in two seasons. I tried it again last year and gave up around the same spot.

Probably not the place, but I'll do it...these are some of the best singular acting jobs I've ever seen. 1. William Holden's last few minutes in Stalag 17...for most of the movie, you are not really sure why the movie takes so long...they could have cut out so much that they stupidly left it in, but jesus did he put on a clinic when he solves the mystery. He turns the room better than Henry Fonda in 12 Angry Men. 2. Paul Newman in Slap Shot...yes Slap Shot..so many subtle scenes and funny scenes, but best line of the movie is after his long time movie side-kick Strother Martin (what we have heah is a failure to communicate...he was the basis for the warden in Shawshank years in Cool Hand Luke before that movie) blasts into them as a bunch of pussies...One word, Newman "Scouts?" 3. Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes...without a doubt being chased through the museum, seeing his fellow astronaut just a stuffed figure, and then finally getting caught..."Get your stinkin paws off me, you damn dirty ape!"....love the music and the reaction...great scene. 4. Stallone and Deniro in Copland...Deniro eating a sandwich and lighting up Stallone..."I offered you a chance to be a cop, but you blew it!!"...I heard Stallone prompted DeNiro into the telling the line so well. Stallone was clearly brilliant in Rocky but he was freaking fantastic and I thought Copland was his greatest acting role. 5. Albert Brooks in Defending Your Life...at a dive bar comedian is telling jokes...Keeps asking patrons "so how did you die?"..and then gets to Brooks..."how did you die." Brooks, who perhaps is the one of funniest people ever in comedy history..."like you..on stage." ...so many more but just five that are lasting in my brain.

But you need to watch some more movies. Go to FXM and TMC, watch some on demand.

Certainly some others are: DeNiro in Raging Bull, Pesci in Goodfellas, Keitel in Reservoir Dogs, Newman in Cool Hand Luke, Denzel in Training Day, Errol Flynn in They Died With Their Boots On (yes, he was outstanding and had some really out of Flynn character scenes), Barbra Stanwyck in Double Indemnity, Streep in Sophie's Choice (and about 10 other movies), Nicholson in Last Detail and Shining (and about 5 other films), Scheider (his short role in Marathon Man-brilliant)-- and Shaw in Jaws (Mayor had the best line...I'm sorry she's wrong), Redford in The Natural, Nolte in North Dallas 40, Guy Pearce in Memento, Spacey in Usual Suspects and his small role in one of the best ensemble films in LA Confidential (Pearce terrific), Hoffman and Anne Bancroft (bed scene conversation she didn't want to have) in The Graduate, Sean Connery in Untouchables, Matt Damon in Talented Mr. Ripley, Hanks in Saving Private Ryan, Sam Rockwell in Moon, Bette Davis in All About Eve...that's just off top of my head.

That would have been a great follow up to the Untouchables. Did not know Mamet had written the screenplay. Brando as Capone ? Nah
